Alice Hummer

d. February 2, 2012

Hummer, Alice Dorothy
(Munson)
2/22/1923 - 2/2/12
Passed away peacefully at age 88 at home in North Branch, MN. Alice was born in Winona, MN to Albert and Wilhemina (Stief) Munson, and greeted by her beloved older sister Vera. The family moved to St. Paul where Alice graduated from Central High School. From a brief marriage was born her only child, a dear daughter, Suzie. Alice worked at the Golden Rule Department Store and Western Electric.

At Western Electric, Alice met a handsome widower, Otto Hummer, who frequently traveled to St. Paul from the company offices in Chicago. In 1953, Alice and Otto were married and Otto's seven children became Suzie's older brothers and sisters. Alice moved to Downers Grove, IL with her wonderful new family. She was appointed to the village Board of Health, was an area official in the Red Cross and supported her husband's devotion to the Park District.

Upon Otto's retirement, in 1964 they returned to St. Paul, MN. Alice worked at the Highland Bank, and later at the MN Board of Pharmacy from which she retired in 1990. Alice resided in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood until 2009 when she moved to The Villages of North Branch Assisted Living. The past year she has been cared for lovingly by her daughter and Joe Manley in their home in North Branch, MN and by her cat Smokie.
Alice enjoyed traveling to Japan, Hawaii and Alaska, and had fond memories of taking her grandchildren to Europe and on a road trip to Yellowstone. Her bond with her sister Vera was something she treasured. Alice has provided many warmhearted memories for her family and friends. She will be remembered for her dry sense of humor, devotion to family and her generous love.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Suzan Sinna (Joe Manley) of North Branch, grandchildren, Lora (Christopher) Walker of Stacy and Jeffrey Sinna of Stillwater, grandson-in-law, Jason (Staci) Lamminen and Kathi Lamminen of Lakeville, and great grandchildren, Shelby Walker and Alexander, Allison and Madeline Lamminen. She is also survived by Otto's children, Richard (Elaine) Hummer (IL), Robert (Betty) Hummer (IL), Ned (Peggy) Hummer (MO), Nancy (Gene) Perticone (NY), daughter-in-law Nancy Alonzo (CO), many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Vera Likins, brother-in-law, William Likins, granddaughter Lisa Lamminen, Otto's children, George Hummer, Mary Lou Wakefield and Virginia Hummer and several feline companions, most notably Snookie.
