Mairs, Angus McLeod

1933 - 2010

Of St. Paul

Angus passed away on Sunday March 7th at age 76. Preceded in death by his parents, Jean McLeod Mairs; Louise Ritchie and George A. Mairs, Jr; and his wife of 48 years, Marjorie Gillespie Mairs. Survived by children Susan (Patricia Boulware), Angus Jr. (Amy Converse), and Sara (Daniel Steinhacker); grandchildren Katherine Boulware, Samuel and William Steinhacker, and Kaia Mairs; sisters Nancy Gephart (George), Teedie Frankenbach (Charles), Jean McLean (Albert), and brothers Robert (Helen) and George (Dusty). Also survived by many nieces and nephews, their children, and close friends made over many years. Angus started his career in the U. S. Air Force and was an investment counselor in the Twin Cities for more than forty years, ending with retirement in 2003 from Smith Barney in Minneapolis. Blessed with a fun-loving and generous nature, Angus will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and hearty laugh. He enjoyed his many friendships made during his childhood, at St. Paul Academy, at Amherst College (Massachusetts), in the Air Force, and in his professional settings. He was an avid and curious reader and a quiet listener who never hesitated to ask questions when he had them. Angus thrived on fishing excursions and golf travel with his buddies, motoring his young family around the country to visit landmarks, and escaping on special trips for golf, sun, and Alaska exploration with his wife Marge. He preferred to drive for three days than fly for three hours to any destination. He and Marge always relished time with family and friends on the North Shore at Encampment Forest and on the beach in Naples, Florida. Angus had a lifelong love of all sports. He rarely missed one of his children's games and supported SPA's teams long after his own had graduated. He learned from his father to be an avid University of Minnesota fan, and did his duty to pass to his children that same Gopher passion, loyalty, and perseverance. Memorial Service Friday, 2:30 P.M. at HOUSE OF HOPE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 797 Summit Avenue, Saint Paul. Private interment Oakland Cemetery. Family will receive friends following the service at church. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to St. Paul Academy and Summit School or House of Hope Presbyterian Church
