Ardis was born February 6, 1926 in Minneapolis and died July 21, 2009 at Lyngblomsten Care Center . She grew up on the East Side of St. Paul. She married Jermaine D. Arendt at First Lutheran Church in 1946. She was preceded in death by parents, Frances (nee Frankson) and Clair Merchant; her husband, Jermaine D.; sister, Mildred (George) Nelson; and brothers, Thomas (Aimee) and Charles (Mayburn) Merchant. Survived by daughters, Janet Barrett, Becky (Rich) Meyerhofer, Peggy (Gary) Anderson, and Sandra (Mark) Miller; grandchildren, John (Tammy) Meyerhofer, Jeffrey (Mehan) Meyerhofer, Daniel Anderson, Nicholas Anderson, Jessica Miller, and David Miller; 6 great-grandchildren, Maybelle Koland-Anderson, Sophia Comstock, Aaron & Joey Meyerhofer and Jake & Emma Meyerhofer. Ardis graduated from Harding High School in St. Paul and earned two BS's from the University of Minnesota - one in home economics and the second in elementary education. She taught for 20 years in the Minneapolis Public Schools at Morris Park Elementary, Anderson "B" Elementary and Bancroft Elementary, retiring in 1990. Ardis loved cooking, sewing, quilting, entertaining, travel, and her family. For years she and Jermaine spent winters in Sun City West, AZ. She made more contributions than can be listed and will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Regions Hospital , particularly the ER staff, the staff on 8200, and Dr. Ranjit Kesha in particular. In addition we wish to thank the staff on 4N at Lyngblomsten Care Center , St. Paul . Memorial service Friday, 1:00 P.M. at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH , 463 Maria Avenue East , St. Paul . Visitation one hour prior to the service at church. First Luthearn is handicap accessible thru the lot behind the church Memorials are preferred to the Jermaine D. Arendt Scholarship Fund, Concordia Language Camps, the U of MN College of Human Ecology or donor's choice.
