Reverend August John Hoeger died peacefully at Mount Olivet Careview Home in Minneapolis. Born in Fargo, ND, he was the 7th of 8 siblings born to August and Amelia Hoeger. He received his BA from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, his master?s degree in psychology from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, and his divinity degree from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, IA. Early in his career he served as a Pastor of several congregations in the Midwest as well as teaching and acting as campus pastor at both Dana College in Blair, NE and Mankato State, MN. In 1963, he accepted the position as Executive Director of the Good Samaritan Society in Souix Falls, SD where he remained for 25 years. He married Elizabeth Helen Dahl in Minneapolis in 1952. They had 5 children and 16 grandchildren. Augie was a devoted family man and shared his faith in God through his life of service to others. He also shared his love of music, nature, travel, books, sports and was an avid birder. August is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty, Minneapolis; one brother and five sisters; his five children, Peter (Deb) Lerdal, Hutchinson, MN, Agnes (Bruce) Gregg, LaCrosse WI, Joel (Karyl) New Brighton, MN, Michael (Barbara) DeWitt, Redondo Beach, CA, and Anne Parker (James), St. Paul, MN. Memorial service Thursday May 31, 2 PM at GLORIA DEI LUTHERAN CHURCH, 700 S. Snelling Avenue. Private family interment. Memorials may be directed to the Hoeger Scholarship Foundation at the Good Samaritan Society or the Mount Olivet Careview Home.
