Donald E. "Don" Spangler

Donald E. "Don" Spangler, age 82, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at a local care center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 29th at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Glenn Gasser and Jane Miller will officiate. Music will be provided by Betty Knutson as organist with Louisa Dykstra as violinist. Visitation will be prior to the service at the chapel on Saturday.

Services will also be held at the Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center in White Bear, MN, at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30th. Bruce Vanskelton and Caleb Dunham will officiate. Music will be provided by Helen Ekman as pianist with Jill Barbour playing the flute. Visitation will be prior to the service from 2 to 4 p.m.

Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 31st at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Maplewood, MN. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff at Jenkins Living Center. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Williams, Al Stobbe, Randy Ries, Curt Henderson, Ervin Stobbe, and Marvin Carlson.

Don was born on January 14, 1932, in St. Paul, MN, to Gerald and Ada (Day) Spangler. He attended Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minneapolis, MN. Don entered the U.S. Army and served in Korea as a medic from 1952 to 1954. Don started working at Sears Company in the St. Paul area.

In 1961, Don married Doris Severson. He worked construction in the St. Paul area and later on his own. They moved to the Minnetonka, MN, area and retired in 2005. Doris preceded him in death in 2007.

On February 1, 2008, Don married Jacqueline Vockrodt at Orange City, IA. The couple resided in Watertown.

He enjoyed cars, his pets and Christian fellowship, which was a large part of his life.

Don is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, of Watertown; three step-children: Kris Jensen of Watertown, Douglas (Sarah) Allen of Charlotte, NC, and Dave (Melanie) Knudtson of Houston, TX; ten step-grandchildren; one step great-grandson; one brother, Jerry (Darlene) Spangler, of Birchwood, WI; three sisters: Charlotte Erickson of St. Paul, Hazel Goeke of Dallas, TX, and Dorothy Severson of Bozeman, MT.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris, and his parents.
