Gene passed away peacefully on February 14, 2010. He lived all of his 88 years in St. Paul. After active duty service, he began his career with the Minnesota Air National Guard, where he served 36 years before retiring in 1981. He rose through the ranks to earn the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. In WWII, Gene flew 22 missions over Japan as a gunner and flight engineer on B-29's. Gene received many awards, including the Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a founding member of the Minnesota Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, where they procured and restored vintage WWII aircraft. In 2000 Gene received the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award from the FAA for outstanding achievement in aircraft maintenance. He was the first non-flying crew member inducted into the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame in 2001. He has received many other awards and decorations. Gene is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ida Mae, his children, Gene Andreotti (Nancy), Marilee Spargur and, Cindy Andreotti (John Tupper), three grand children and two great grand children. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, 12:00 Noon at HISTORIC FORT SNELLING MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Hwys 5 & 55. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Thursday, 4-8 P.M. at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard (NW corner of Hwy 36 & Co Rd 5), Stillwater with a Rosary service at 8 P.M. Visitation also one hour prior to the Mass at church. Memorials preferred to the Commemorative Air Force in St. Paul and, the Minnesota Air National Guard Museum.
