d. April 24, 2011

Seftick, Gregory M.D.

Much Loved Son, Brother, and Friend.

Died during the night of April 16 - 17 in an avalanche in the beautiful Teton Mountains. He touched many lives and packed a lot of living into his 31 years.

Preceded in death by grandparents Michael and Jane Seftick, Merrill Hanson, and Michael Drazich. Survived by the love of his life Megan Webb, parents Dan and Sue Seftick, brother Chris (aka Topher), grandmother Dorothy Drazich, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Greg was born and raised in Afton. He was a 1998 graduate of Stillwater High School, a 2002 graduate of St. Olaf College, and a 2007 graduate of the U of MN Medical School. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at West Virginia University Hospitals, Morgantown, in 2010. After serving as an attending physician at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon, WV, for 8 months, he moved to Columbia Falls, MT, to be closer to his beloved Rocky Mountains.

Greg was passionate about music, medicine, and the mountains. His love of music often led to long road trips to Phish, Yonder, and Widespread shows. We watched with admiration as his medical knowledge and skill increased and his ability to teach others developed. Greg was honored with the Resident Excellence in Teaching Award as a Third Year resident. But nothing matched his love for the mountains. He felt more comfortable skinning up and skiing a couloir, climbing ice, or solving a rock problem, than navigating any city street system. He was an experienced back country skier and mountaineer. He died with his friend, Walker Kuhl, doing what he loved most. Our thanks to the dedicated staff and volunteers at Grand Teton National Park who found Greg and Walker on April 24.
