Herbert Mahle

d. June 16, 2012

Mahle, Herbert Neidringhaus
Age 95, of Naples FL, died peacefully at home on June 16 , 2012. Herb (Bud) was born in St Paul, MN to Herbert and Mae Mahle on Dec. 19, 1916. He was preceded in death by his brother William H. Mahle, his first wife Evelyn Hoye Mahle and his grandson Andrew A. Mahle. Survived by wife Marguerite (Peggy); children Stephen (Kathi Austin) Mahle, Susan (Betty Friesen) Mahle, and Sally (Jim) Stuart; step-children Sandra (Ted) Sheppard, Linda (Bob) Ryan and Carla (Larry) Fowler; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Herb lived most of his long and full life in St. Paul. He attended St Paul Central HS, Macalester College and graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Minnesota. He served courageously during WW II as an officer on a destroyer in the Pacific, most notably in the battle of Leyte Gulf. After the war he settled with Evelyn in St Paul and raised his family. As an engineer he worked for Economics Lab, Sperry Univac, and then spent most of his career as and owner and officer of Ramsey Engineering Co., Roseville MN. After Evelyn's death in 1972 he met and married Peggy, and they enjoyed 38 years together, initially in St Paul and then during retirement in Naples.
Herb will be remembered most of all as a generous and caring husband, father and grandfather. His love was unconditional and quietly expressed. He was a man of strong and quiet faith who valued relationships with family, friends and God. He was honest, humble and wise; and by example, taught others how to live, what to value and how to be thoughtful leaders. He lived a life of service. He was an Eagle Scout, an active member of both E. Naples and Fairmount Avenue Methodist churches, a volunteer for the St Paul Girl Scouts and YMCA and an honorary life member of Rotary International. His interests were numerous, many of which he passed on to members of his family: he was an avid golfer and bowler; his green thumb won him many ribbons at the MN state fair; and he loved little children, dogs of any kind, road trips, global travel, classical music, practical jokes, computer games, bridge, ice cream and candy!! He had a great sense of humor, a mischievous smile, and always a twinkle in his eye. He was a true gem of a man and a living example of "The Greatest Generation".
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Dr Ronald Garry, the staffs at Terracina Grand and Avow Hospice of Naples, FL. A celebration of Herb's life will be held at 2 pm on July 3 at Fairmount Ave Methodist Church, 1523 Fairmount Avenue, St. Paul. Private interment at Oakland Cemetery in St. Paul. Memorials preferred to Avow Hospice of Naples, Fairmount Avenue United Methodist Church or donor's choice.
