Joseph Herman Allenspach was called home on June 7, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Stillwater, Minnesota at the age of 100 years, 3 months and 21 days. Preceded in death by his wife Ella Osthoff Allenspach, and siblings Esther Lahr, Dorothy Zimmerman, Benjamin, Harvey, Margaret Carson and Bernice Weeks Carson. Survived by sons David (Virginia), Wayne (Karla) and Glenn (Sherry), grandchildren Joseph (Nicole), Timothy, Jessica and grandson Kelly. Also great grandchildren Ella, Ava and Joseph and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was born in Tenney, Minnesota to Earnest and Minnie (Raebel) Allenspach on February 16, 1918. The family moved to Morton Illinois, where Joe graduated from Morton High School. A World War II veteran, he met Ella while stationed at Leavenworth, Kansas. He served overseas in the Philippines. After the war, he and Ella returned to Minnesota where they made their home in Golden Valley, and later in Stillwater. A member of the Graphic Arts International Union, Joe worked as a lithographer for Harrison Smith in Minneapolis. Lifelong members of the faith community, Joe and Ella were members of Trinity First Lutheran Church of Minneapolis, Cross Lutheran of Maplewood, South Shore Trinity Lutheran of White Bear Lake, and the Lutheran Church of the Risen Christ in Stillwater, now called Woodbury Lutheran Church, Oak Hill Campus.
Service Friday, June 15, 11:00 A.M. at WOODBURY LUTHERAN CHURCH, OAK HILL CAMPUS, 9050 60th Street North, Stillwater. Visitation one hour prior. Burial Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family wishes to offer a special thanks to the caregivers of The Gathering at Boutwells Landing, the Good Samaritan Society and Lakeview Hospice for their care of Joe in his final months.
