Keith Magnuson

d. October 23, 2014

Keith Victor Magnuson-Age 55

He was a loving father, husband, friend and visionary leader within the ELCA Lutheran family. Keith passed away on Thursday, October 23 after a courageous battle with cancer. Keith is survived by his wife Jean, two sons John and Joe; parents Ken and Laverne Magnuson; brother Kent (Laura); other wonderful relatives and friends. Special thanks to the caring staff at Methodist Hospital and the Frauenshuh Cancer Center.

Keith was born and raised in south Minneapolis, graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1977, and the U of M in 1981. His love of people and desire to walk along side others as they encounter life's joys and sorrows, led him to Luther Seminary where he graduated with an MDiv degree in 1987.

During his life as a pastor Keith served three congregations in the Twin Cities. St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Cottage grove, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in south Minneapolis and St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Bloomington. In every congregation Keith left his mark of genuine compassion, innovative leadership and deep conviction to care relentlessly for others. Wherever Keith served, faith communities thrived and lives where changed.

After nearly 20 years in the parish, Keith moved to church consulting. He became the co-owner of Kairos and Associates with his best friend in 2007. His thoughtful leadership and visionary imagination influenced both churches and synods throughout the ELCA.

A private service will be held for immediate family. A public Celebration of Life event will be held November 16th at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Bloomington, MN starting at 2PM. Donations in Keith's memory are asked to be directed to Luther Seminary where an endowed scholarship fund has been set up in Keith's name.
