November 14, 1920 — October 19, 2012

MaryAnn Evenson (Gietzen), 91
MaryAnn Evenson of Waconia (formerly, Thief River Falls) passed away on October 19, 2012, at the McKenna Crossing Assisted Living Center in Prior Lake, Minnesota, at age 91.
MaryAnn was born to William N. and Anna L. Hartmann Gietzen of Glen Ullin, North Dakota, on November 14, 1920. She was married to Erving Evenson on April 5, 1948, and the couple farmed in Polk Center Township, Pennington County, Minnesota, until his death in 1998, at which time she moved to Waconia, Minnesota. MaryAnn graduated from Glen Ullin High School and attended the North Dakota School for the Deaf at Devils Lake, North Dakota and the College of Commerce in St. Paul, Minnesota. Following graduation from college, she worked as a medical lab technician in Minneapolis. In addition to farming during her marriage, MaryAnn worked for the Minnesota Epilepsy Foundation and the Minnesota Association of Retarded Children and Citizens. After her retirement she volunteered at the Carver County Historical Society and Ridgeview Medical Center, in Waconia. MaryAnn loved needlework, embroidery, reading mystery novels, and writing. But more than anything she loved life on the farm and commented often during her last days that she wished she could drive a tractor again.
MaryAnn is survived by her children, Elaine Stadum, Eleanor Evenson, Eric Evenson, Arne Evenson and Eileen Schmidt (John) and grandchildren Joshua, Sarah, Karl, Leif, Thea, Jacob and Caleb; her sister Betty Lou Remmick, sisters-in-law Mary Gietzen (William) and Delores Gietzen (Robert). She was preceded in death by her husband Erving in 1998 and her son Jon Frederick in 1983 and her brothers William and Robert.
Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 27th at the McKenna Crossing Chapel, (13810 Shepherd's Path, Prior Lake) with internment in Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, Minnesota.
