Raquel Rudquist

d. December 23, 2012

Raquel Monica Chanco Rudquist y Ruiz Zorrilla, 77, of Minneapolis, beloved mother and grandmother, and longtime corporate architect at Target Corporation, passed away peacefully Dec. 23 surrounded by the sounds of her family. She was born in Manila, Philippines, and survived World War II and the Japanese occupation of Manila, where her family home was burned to the ground. She was one of the first women to graduate from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila with a degree in architecture in 1956. She received her Masters from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where she met her late husband Jerry Rudquist, artist and former longtime Professor at Macalester College in St. Paul. She enjoyed her work life as an architect for a variety of local Minnesota firms and especially her time as one of the corporate architects at Target where she worked for 23 years until her retirement in 2000. She loved to travel and delighted in her September trips to Florence, Italy, a place she considered her second home. She loved to read, garden and spend time with her family, and she especially delighted in her two grandsons.
She is survived by sister Rebecca Castaneda of Manila, brother Rouben Chanco of St. Paul, Mn., sister Rosanna Sbuttoni of London, daughter Monica Rudquist and her husband Sixto Beltrandy and their son Maars Beltrandy y Rudquist all of Minneapolis, daughter Michelle Anton and her husband Jim Anton and their son Jasper Anton all of Minneapolis, and many nieces and nephews throughout the world.
