Thein, Rodney

Age 73 of Stillwater

Died November 4, 2011

Preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary Frances (nee Dewane), son, Rodney Thomas Jr., brother, Eugene, sister, Patricia Ann Thein, parents, Eugene and Emma (nee Tomes). Survived by his loving wife, Marcelle "Terry" Devitt; children, Mary "Katie" (Ronald) Kimlinger, Kristin (Mark) Miner, Stephen (Kari) Thein, David Thein, and Erin Thein; grandchildren, Daniel, Joseph, Ellen and David Kimlinger, Sarah and Steven Miner, Samuel and Charles Thein; sisters, LaVonne (Jerry) Welter, Karen Thein, SSND; many nieces and nephews; stepson, Mark (Jean) Hoffman; stepdaughter, Michelle Hoffman; step grandchildren, Brian and Kevin Hoffman.

Rod grew up in Clara City, MN, attended St. John's Prep, Collegeville, MN; Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI; and Georgetown Law School, Washington, D.C. Following three and a half years with the Navy Judge Advocate General Corp in Newport, R.I. and San Diego, CA, he joined First Trust Company of St. Paul in April of 1966, where he headed the Probate Department for Minneapolis/St. Paul and retired in 1999.

Rodney's 73 years were filled with passion, love, and laughter. He treasured time with family at his home on the lake, and loved fishing, golfing and hunting. His golf swing, like Rod himself, was full of motion, energy, and comic relief. His fishing prowess was legendary, if not somewhat imagined. Rod's unmatched sense of humor, his intelligence, and his unshakeable focus on the joyfulness of life were legendary. Happiness to him was time with loved ones, songs by Johnny Cash, and a respectable supply of firewood and malt beverages. He considered himself to be "the happiest and luckiest man on earth". We will miss his quick wit, calm demeanor, eternal optimism, and unconditional love. Those who were blessed to have Rod in their lives are forever changed and grateful.
