Dr. Ronald Lee Stewart passed away suddenly at his home in Stillwater, MN on Saturday, November 3rd. Born and raised in Chula Vista, CA, he was descended from an original South Bay-Tijuana Valley pioneer family. He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent, and his mother, Margarite.



Receiving a football scholarship, Ron attended the University of Southern California and then left college to serve his country in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.



From the Marines, Ron returned to college at San Diego State University, where he was chosen "Little All-American" in football. With a teaching credential, Ron began his illustrious career in education as a teacher, principal and superintendent of schools in California. For fifteen years, he was Superintendent of Schools for Contra Costa County, CA. He served with such distinction that upon retirement in 1996 the Contra Costa County Office of Education was renamed the ?Ronald L. Stewart Learning Center? in his honor.



Ron is survived by his wife, Jane; sons, Scott Stewart (Charlotte) and Jeff Stewart; his step-son, David Berghult (Marie); his six grandchildren; his sisters, Betty Anderson (Jack) and Barbara DuErmit (Joseph); his many nieces; a nephew; aunts and uncles; a sister-in-law, Alice (Phil) Strong and a brother-in-law, Dr. Ade Dillon (Marilyn).



Ron was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. With his passing his memory will be forever carried in the hearts of those who loved him.



A gathering of friends will be held on November 17, 2007 at the Dellwood Hills Golf Club, 29 E. Hwy 96, Dellwood from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. with a brief memorial service at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation/in honor of Dr. Ronald Stewart/P.O.Box 3008/Princeton, New Jersey 087543-3008.
