Virginia Evans (Sheils)

A Memorial Service for Virginia S. Evans, age 91, of Bayport will be held on Friday, April 15, 2005 at 2:00 PM at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 813 W. Myrtle Street. Gathering one hour prior to the service at church. Mrs. Evans died April 13, 2005 at Greeley Health Care Center. She was born on May 2, 1913 in West Concord, Minnesota to George A. Sheils and Ethel E. Reed Sheils. Through her music she brought joy and vitality to countless gatherings throughout the St. Croix Valley until recently. She founded the preschool now know as Sunny Hill. She was also a volunteer at area health care centers, where she played the piano for the residents. For over 60 years she was an organist at First United Methodist Church in Stillwater. In 1984, she was named Woman of the Year by the BPW. She was a Charter Board Member of the St. Croix Valley Senior Citizens Organization, and chosen outstanding senior citizen of Washington County in 1990. Preceded in death by husband, Leonard Evans; parents, Dr. G. A. ?Doc? and Ethel Sheils; brother, Rev. George Sheils; grandson, Mark Owen Holmquist; and great-grandson, Lucas Holmquist. Survived by children, Sheila (Jon) Holmquist of California, Lynn (Tom) Kearns of Iowa, Carol (Jim) Slavik of Oak Park Heights, Dick (Pat) Evans of Shoreview, and Jackie (Mike) Trudeau of Florida; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, sister/cousin, Wilma (Charles) Berg; sister-in-law, Doris Sheils; and many other relatives. Surrounded by family, Virginia went Home to God. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials to First UMC, Croixdale Memorial Fund or donor?s choice.
