Memorial service for William F. Nettekoven, age 82, of Houlton will be Wednesday, 1:00 P.M. at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 115 North 4th Street, Stillwater. Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday, (TODAY) 6:00-8:00 P.M. at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard (NW corner of Hwy 36 & Co Rd 5), Stillwater.
Bill died peacefully in his sleep on August 5, 2006. Preceded in death by parents, Fred and Persia Nettekoven; sister, Nancy Staley. Survived by loving wife of 62 years, Arlene (nee Class); children, Christine (Roger) Fossum, Cynthia (Terry) Muths, and William S. (Cynthia) Nettekoven; grandchildren, Bethany, Karin, Janelle, Daniel, Emily, W. Matthew, and Katherine; great-grandchildren, W. Noah and R. James.
Bill was born in Plainview, MN on October 12, 1923. It was there he met Arlene when she came to teach. He was Second Lieutenant in the Air Force, served in WWII as a B24 navigator, flew 17 missions before being shot down in Italy, and was a POW from December 1944 until liberation in June 1945. Bill was a Mechanical Engineer, a graduate of the University of Minnesota, and worked at MN Scale, Foley Manufacturing, and 3M Company from which he retired in 1985. Outside his family, he loved fishing, woodworking, singing and model railroading. He will be greatly missed by all his family. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to donor?s choice.
