Age 68 of Minneapolis passed away on May 31, 2019 at the Minneapolis Veteran’s Home after a courageous battle with lung cancer. David grew up in South Minneapolis and attended Incarnation Grade School where he learned Latin and was an altar boy. Dave then went on to attend De La Salle High School where he played hockey. David enlisted in the army at 17 and volunteered for the Vietnam War. He served 18 months in Vietnam and was in the security police stationed in Pleiku, Vietnam. David was hospitalized with Malaria while in Vietnam. He returned home and was a long-term resident at Minneapolis Veteran’s Home where he had a strong relationship with the staff and other residents. David will be missed by all those he left behind, but especially those at Curran’s Restaurant where he regularly enjoyed a California burger, fries, iced tea, and strawberry pie for lunch.
Preceded in death by parents, Edward and Lila Volker; and brothers, Michael, Patrick, and Eddy.
Survived by brother, John (Vicki) Volker; sister-in-law, Leslie Volker; uncle, Jack Dressen; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial 11AM Friday, June 7th at St. Albert the Great Church, 2836 33rd Ave S, Minneapolis with visitation beginning one hour prior. Private family interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
