John Robert Nyberg
Age 100 of Shoreview
Born on Sept. 26, 1919,
Passed peacefully on Jan. 5th, 2020.

Preceded in passing by his wife of 73 years, Dorothy (nee Swanberg), his parents John and Ellen Nyberg; brothers Karl and Walt Nyberg.
John and Dorothy were married on December 16, 1946 in Denver, CO, and built their home in Shoreview, MN in 1951, where they lived until moving to assisted living in 2014.
John was a reporter for the Minneapolis Star, worked in the advertising department of Augsburg Publishing House, and was the news editor of The Lutheran Standard magazine until his retirement in 1985. During his long retirement John enjoyed gardening, painting, spending time with family and sharing the many stories he had tucked in his ever-sharp mind.
He was a member of Kiwanis, loved following sports (mostly the Twins), and sang in his church choirs and in the Covenanters Male Chorus for many years. You can enjoy John’s (“Rob” as many of his family and friends called him) very recent singing videos at “Rob Sings” https://tinyurl.com/yelu2qb5
John loved Dot’s cooking and always had a love and concern for “the least of these”. In that light, please direct gifts in John’s name to St. Timothy Lutheran Church. All gifts will be designated to support local ministries that fight poverty and hunger: The Sheridan Story, Feed My Starving Children, and Loaves and Fishes.
Memorial Service 11 AM on February 10, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1465 Victoria St. N., St. Paul.
