Anita “Lynn” Ferguson

Age 73, of Mahtomedi, passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on August 17, 2021 at The Pillars Hospice Home in Oakdale, surrounded by family. Preceded in death by father, Rev. Dale Leland Robertson; mother, Anita Myrtle (Burkum) Robertson; and infant sister, Cheryl Lynn Robertson. Survived by husband, Dr. Dennis Earl Ferguson; daughter, Tamara Lynn (fiancé, Charles) Ferguson; son, Jeffrey Earl (Sara) Ferguson; grandson Derek William (Kaitlyn) Stagg; granddaughter, Haley Victoria (Benjamin) Woody; granddaughter, Hannah Lillian Ferguson; sister, Julie Ann (Luverne) Larsen; sister, Cheryl Marie Scott; brother, Lonnie Dale (Denise) Robertson; and sister, Deborah Leah (David) Gullord.

When Lynn was growing up, she enjoyed Girl Scouts, church camp, glee club, mixed chorus, playing flute and piccolo in band, and playing piano for school and church choirs. Her mother taught her how to invert chords, improvise, and transpose music. These skills equipped her to perform professionally with various vocalists, including Jubileers Quartet.

Lynn graduated from Plainview High School in 1966 and was crowned Miss Plainview that same year. Soon afterward, she attended Nebraska Christian College and married her high school sweetheart, Denny, who had recently returned from his U.S. Army service in Germany. While Denny worked toward his doctorate and built a career in mechanical engineering, Lynn taught piano lessons, performed as a soloist and accompanist, and held various secretarial positions.

Together Lynn and Denny lovingly raised two children, Tammy and Jeff. No matter where the family of four lived, Denny and Lynn always created a beautiful, hospitable home for friend-and-family gatherings—a home infused with grand piano music, grandfather clock chimes, candles, storytelling, laughter, flowers, books, board games, yard games, photos, Scripture reminders, stunning table settings, elegant holiday décor, and the pleasing aromas of homemade meals and treats. Having grown up in church parsonages as part of her father’s career as a minister, Lynn excelled in hospitality and knew how to remain prepared for guests at all times.

When it came time for Lynn to leave behind the beautiful home life she’d created for her loved ones, she handled the loss with dignity and grace. “I wanted to make my move to hospice as easy for you as possible,” she told her children. That was the kind of mother she was.

Lynn’s love for the Lord shone most in her smile, and faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of every aspect of Lynn’s life. She spoke often of God’s faithfulness to her, and her greatest desire was for all of her descendants to trust and love the Lord. So far, that desire has been fulfilled. This gave her great peace when she was passing out of this world and into the arms of her Savior.

A celebration of Lynn’s life will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 3:00 PM CST, with visitation one hour prior, at First Evangelical Free Church, 2696 Hazelwood St., Maplewood, MN 55109.
