10/10/1951 - 1/12/2023
With deep sadness, we announce that our beloved Cesar Hernandez passed away suddenly at home in Stillwater, MN on Thursday, January 12, 2023. Cesar had generosity of spirit which he shared daily with his wife, Joyce, and their daughter, Zoë. He was born October 10, 1951, in Juarez, Mexico, to Oscar Hernandez Sr., and Alicia Alvarez Hernandez. When Cesar was five years of age, he immigrated to Battle Creek, Michigan with his parents and brother, Oscar Jr.
In 1981, Cesar married Joyce Nettleton and they started their life together in San Francisco, CA. In 1990, they welcomed daughter, Zoë, and eventually made Minnesota their new home two years later.
Cesar was gregarious and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was an attentive listener, a great storyteller, and always had something interesting to share. He was full of joy and positivity and taught us to enjoy life in the moment. ‘Natural curator’ is a term Zoë ascribes to her dad, as well as a bit mischievous. He loved art and would sometimes get reprimanded for touching his favorite sculpture at the museum. Or, when stealing raspberries from the top of his favorite cake, Tres Leches, he would exclaim, “I’m completely innocent!”, with a playful expression that suggested otherwise. No one could doubt he was as good-natured as they come. He loved the beauty in architecture and regularly sought out all types of music to share. He savored life, like he savored good food, enthusiastically exploring the diversity of flavors in new recipes or restaurants. Cesar leaves behind so many good memories and special moments of traveling and exploring with his family. To say he will be greatly missed is such a modest statement for those who loved him.
Cesar is survived by his wife, Joyce Hernandez, and daughter, Zoë Hernandez (Victor Harper, Jr.), and his brother, Oscar Hernandez, Jr. (Kathleen), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Alice Taffy Hernandez.
A Celebration of Life is planned at Bradshaw, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater, MN 55082, on May 16, 2023. Complete service information to follow.
