Francis Giroux

Francis Henry Giroux passed peacefully on July 21st, 2021 at the age 99 years 2 months and 21 days.

He was preceded in death by father, Fredric F. Giroux and mother, Carrie (Parent) Giroux, his beloved wife of 73 years Ethel M. (Praus) Giroux, their son Daniel F. Giroux. His sisters, Marge and Gen, and his brother Fred. Many extended family members along the way also.

Francis is survived by their son Thomas J. Giroux and his wife Shirley L. (Droogsma) Giroux along with their 5 adult children and spouses, 7 great-grandchildren, 3 dogs, and 4 cats. Daniel's son Daniel (Danny) F. Giroux II, 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.

Francis served in the Navy as a Seaman 1c V6 USNR during WWII and was stationed in Hawaii, serving till the war ended and his honorable discharge came through December 6th, 1945.

Returning home, he and Ethel had a couple of homes prior to building their dream home back in south Minneapolis on the same block that Ethel lived on since she was 5 years old and a few blocks from his family's home.

He retired from the city in Minneapolis and local 15 UA Plumbers Union after 27 years, along the way he had MANY part-time jobs to support the family's "happy place" very appropriately named "ODD & ENDS" at the lake. He was always tinkering with something and fixing it "but it's only temporary" till I get... He was always tinkering with something; in the very early weeks of retirement, he went so far as to organize the pins Ethel used in her drapery business. Early in the retirement years they traveled south by RV in the winter months and finally picked a place to call their winter home in south Texas near Ethel's brothers for the next nineteen years as snowbirds.

Over the last few years dementia crept in and dominated his and family life.

Non-designated memorials will be given to charities and organizations as per  Francis' wishes that he had directed them to be used.
