FAINT

Robert Luther, WWII US Navy

Age 98, of Stillwater, MN

Formerly of Johnstown, PA

You broke the cage and flew.  RUMI

Robert is preceded in death by parents, Lorenzo and Martha Faint; beloved wife, Marion; his stillborn son; brothers, Paul and Dave; son-in-law, Jack Brown; brother and sister-in-law, Clem and Arleen Waldera.

He is survived by his 10 children, Bob (Mary Jo), Rick (Connie), Ray (Cindy), Rod (Kathy), Maribeth, Barbara (Brian), Chris, Peter, Suzanne (Jack), Dave (Karen); grandchildren, Rick, Kim, Dustin, Rochelle, Kelly, Ryan, Matt, Nate, Tessa, Eli, Colin, Jacob, Tyler, Shannon, Chris, Allie, Ian, Dallas, Molly; 21 great grandchildren; extended family and many friends.

While serving on the USS Arkansas, Bob was awarded 9 Atlantic/Pacific campaign medals, including Normandy on D Day. Bob was a highly skilled machinist retiring from American Hoist and Derrick after 36 years. He built the cranes that built America after the war. Always industrious, Bob also worked a second job as an ornamental iron craftsman.

Bob was exemplary in his fatherhood, his faith, his good humor, his integrity, his compassion and his delight as each new baby joined the family. His work ethic and dedication to his wife and family never wavered. He was a friend to all. Bob walked on the sunny side of the street.

Bob enjoyed his long healthy life, and even upon entering hospice his determination to cherish each day only grew stronger. Bob’s dedicated children were able to keep Bob in the family home he had worked so hard to provide. Bob had a beautiful passing; he was surrounded by love and enveloped in prayers as his last breaths took leave. He did not suffer, he flew.
