Feisty to the very end, Wally Abrahamson, 91, of Oak Park Heights, passed away Monday, May 17, of complications from congestive heart failure at Good Samaritan Society in Stillwater.

Wallace Leslie Abrahamson was born January 19, 1930 in Superior, Wisconsin. After graduating from Denfeld High School in Duluth in 1948 he served in the U.S. Navy until 1953. During the Korean War he was a radar man on the USS Iowa and the USS Rochester. He married Carolyn Wells Schroeder in 1955. He worked as a fireman at the Duluth Air Force base before becoming a St. Louis County deputy sheriff in 1960. He became Stillwater police chief in 1967 and retired in 1984. He was elected to his first of two Stillwater mayoral terms in 1986. He also served two terms as a member of the Washington County Board from 1994 to 2002.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn. They were married for 63 years. His brother Bob of Duluth died in 2016.

He is survived by his brother, Chuck of Silver Bay; sister, Joyce (Ralph) Taylor of Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law, Marilyne of Duluth; daughter, Wendy (Jerry) Wiese of Stillwater; sons, Wally, Jr. of Lake Elmo, Bill (Tammy) of Lakeland and Les (Lori) of McKinney, TX.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 25 at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center in Stillwater, with visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
