Beedle, Halcyon Dawn

(Smith, Sheridan)

Age 72, of Lake St. Croix Beach, MN

?I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.? 2 Timothy 4:7.

Dawn passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 2, 2007 after a courageous 6 year battle with Ovarian Cancer.

Dawn was born January 22, 1936 in Cannon Falls, Minnesota during the Blizzard of ?36. She attended a country school and graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1953. Church activities and volunteering with the Girl Scouts gave Dawn a strong foundation for a life of community service and activism. She was a longtime member of both the Hastings and State of Minnesota School Board. She was among the original founders of Hastings Family Service.

After moving to Lake St. Croix Beach, she served as a board member for Community Volunteer Services in Stillwater, where she was also instrumental in founding a Senior Center. After serving as council member, Dawn became Mayor of Lake St. Croix Beach. During two major floods in the area, her leadership skills helped bring the community together.

She coordinated the Fare for All food distribution program, served as Guardian Ad Litem for children in Washington County and created Dawn?s Closet, which continues to be a part of Valley Outreach in Stillwater. Some of her volunteer activities included serving as the volunteer coordinator for Memorial Lutheran Church in Afton, working with Meals on Wheels, and the United Way fund drive in Hastings. If someone was hungry or needed a place to stay, Dawn was always there to help. There was often extra people around her table for family holidays. She gave us a broader definition of family.

Dawn enjoyed teaching stained glass classes out of her home, classes at the community college, and was known for her cake decorating talents.
