Beloved husband, dad, grandpa



Hank passed away suddenly on April 5, 2008 at the young age of 78. He collapsed at home and was unable to be revived, but suffered no pain. Preceded in death by his parents Martha (Knutson) and Henry L. Sampson, Sr. Survived by loving wife and best friend of 54 years, Eloise; sister Carol (John) Johnson; son Greg; son Mark (Louise; grandchildren Rachel, Ben, Liz, John and Scott); and daughter Julie Arend (Mark; grandchildren Daniel, Paul, Luke, Jessica and Sarah). Hank?s ten grandchildren were very close to him and will miss him dearly. Originally from Duluth, he served in the navy prior to attending St. Olaf College. He worked at WCAL, the campus radio station, where his interest in broadcasting began. He had a long and productive dual career in radio broadcasting and advertising, and came to be known by many as ?Hank from the Bank?. He was involved in many civic activities in the Stillwater area. He highly valued his membership and association with the Stillwater Rotary Club and the Washington County Historical Society. He was very proud of his Norwegian ancestry and was always quick with an Ole and Lena joke. Hank was the ?master of ceremonies? not only for many public events, but also in his circle of family and friends. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, generosity, optimism, and quiet faith. Visitation Sunday, April 13, from 5 to 8 PM at BRADSHAW CELEBRATION OF LIFE CENTER, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd.,(NW Corner at Hwy 36 and Co. Rd. 5), Stillwater, and 1 hour before service at church. Funeral service 11 am Monday, April 14, SAINT PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 609 S. 5th Street, Stillwater. Interment Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Washington County Historical Society or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
