Age 84
Jean L. Carlson Swenson passed away peacefully July 31, 2006. She was born May 7, 1922, in Ashland, WI. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1940, & from UW Stout in 1944 with a B.S. Degree in Consumer & Family Living and received a Masters Degree from UW Milwaukee in Adult Education. In 1948, Jean married Edward Carlson of Ashland. They were married for 24 years before he preceded her in death in January 1973. She taught high school Home Economics at Rhinelander, Ondossagon, & Salem Central Schools in WI. She later became a coordinator of Home Economics & Adult Education programs at Gateway Technical College and Indianhead Technical College. In 1983 she was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from UW Stout and retired as State Supervisor of Home Economics for the Wisconsin Board of Vocational, Technical, & Adult Education. Also in 1983 she married Vernon Swenson of Madison, WI. After 19 years of marriage, Vernon preceded her in death August 2002. Survived by sons, Van (Julie) Carlson of North Oaks, MN, January (Linda) Carlson of Spokane, WA, & Brian Carlson of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Brent (Jennifer), Peter, Ryan, Heidi, Nicholas, & Annette Carlson; Vernon?s children, Nels (Jill) & Mark Swenson and Karen Raymond, and their children, Ty, Kaylee, Statia, & Heather Swenson, and Travis, Jessie, & Calvin Raymond; brother, Van Peterson of Ashland; many nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Margaret & Louis J. Peterson; brother, Glenn Peterson; and husbands, Edward Carlson & Vernon Swenson. Jean will be remembered for her servant?s heart, her wisdom, and her love of family. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman. Service Sunday, August 6, 2006, 5PM at BRADSHAW, 4600 Greenhaven Dr. at Hwy 96 (one mile west of 35E). Visitation one hour prior to the service. Graveside Service & interment Mount Hope Cemetery, Ashland, WI on Monday, August 7, 2006, 1PM. Memorials preferred to New Life Ministries.
