Jerry Castle

Jerome William (Jerry) Castle, 83, passed away on Monday, Oct 1 in St. Paul. Born on Sept 4, 1935 in Morton MN, he grew up in Faribault and lived there until his college years at the College of St. Thomas. Upon graduation in 1957, he began a long career as a teacher and guidance counselor for the St. Paul Public Schools. He and Meg McGregor Read were married in 1981 and lived in Marine on St. Croix until 2005. He retired in 1992 and then he and Meg became aging ski bums in the Rocky Mountains each winter until 2014. He continued his love of sports with golf games, hunting and fishing trips with his son and with college friends whenever he could as well as camping trips in the Minnesota and Canadian wildernesses. His love for his children knew no bounds and with a quick wit, Irish sense of humor, and an English teacher's vocabulary, he spread laughter and joy wherever he went. For the last two years, he joined his good baritone voice with the St. Paul Giving Voice Chorus a" a very special choir for people with dementia and their caregivers. His death was due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Castle and Elizabeth Virginia McLean Castle and two sisters, Novella Castle Meany and Margaret Mary Castle and one grandson, Kristian Castle. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren and several cousins.
Jerry's family is grateful for his friends who supported him and his family over the past several years, especially the angels at Alton Memory Care where he had lived since June 2018 and Our Lady of Peace Hospice who comforted him during his final days.
