Koplos, Luciel H.

Age 93, July 20, 1915 - November 18, 2008

"I would not paint regret. Instead, I would paint hope twice."

Nothing gave Luciel greater joy than being with her four children and hearing laugh and talk with each other. So those last several days in her hospital room must have been pure joy for her. The joy for us was taking her home to spend her last few hours in peace and comfort and surrounded by love. Luciel Grace Hanley was one of four children born to James and Anna (Kelly) Hanley. She is survived by her sister Chrismarie (Glen) Bakken, her children Ed (Joan), Jerry (Patti), Mary Jo, and John (Denice), seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. A truly pioneering woman, next to her family Luciel was most proud of the time she served in the Army. Her country served her in return during her final three years as she was tenderly cared for by the staff on unit 6-1 at the Minnesota Veterans Home - Minneapolis. Visitation Saturday, November 22, 6:30 -7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 7:15 P.M. CHURCH OF THE VISITATION, 4530 Lyndale Ave S. Minneapolis, 55419. Luciel will be laid to rest in a private ceremony next July 20th, when we will celebrate her birthday and she will join her fellow soldiers at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. During her retirement years, Luciel knit so many pairs of mittens for Sharing and Caring Hands that she earned a nickname. Therefore, in lieu of flowers we will be collecting mittens at the funeral - or you may send donations and/or mittens to: Sharing and Caring Hands, 525 N 7th Street Minneapolis, MN 55416, in honor of "The Mitten Lady". Love you Mom.
