McGovern, Luverne M. (Ramgren) Loving mother and grandmother and great. Born April 1, 1920. Called it "quits" January 4, 2008. Of South Minneapolis. Preceded in death by husband, Earl and son, Steven. Survived by children, Earl, Lauren aka Lois (John), Michael, John (Judy), Rob (Jessica), Sheri, Dave, Phill (Stephanie), Jeff (Steph), Terri Ann (Dan), Lynnette. Also 21 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren. Monumental Mother and a dedicated Democrat, Luverne kept an open and welcoming house for her children and their friends for many years, tolerating sinners and saints in the process, keeping her own independence even as she met the demands of home, church and community. She learned to bet on the horses and was a "helluva handicapper," her children proudly said. Her legacy, however, will be her unstinting love for family and friends, for whom she always bet no matter the odds. Service Wednesday, 11 AM at ST. JOAN OF ARC CATHOLIC CHURCH, 4537 Third Ave. S., Minneapolis. Interment following at Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights.
