MANUEL J.AGUIRRE-AGED 88
1925-2013. "Manny" passed away suddenly 11/1/13. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy, and a baby daughter. He is survived by his three sons, Theodore of Portland, OR and his partner Steve; Edward and his wife Laurie; Adrian and his wife Heather all from St. Paul. Grandchildren Matthew and his wife Reanna of San Diego. Sarita, Vincent and Shandi from St. Paul; and his Great-grandchildren Matthew Jr. and Francisco from San Diego. He is also survived by his sister Carmen and her husband Tom. There are many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
"Manny" was born in Mason city, IA. His family moved to St. Paul during the depression and he lived for almost 70 years on the West side. He was a Navy veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific on the U.S.S. Ozark. His ship was in Tokyo Bay and he was able to observe the signing of the peace treaty that ended the war with Japan. He was very proud of his service and was still able to wear his uniform to this day on special occasions. After waiting for almost three years, he was finally able to go on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C., to visit the War Memorials with his grandson Matthew. They went on April 28th, 2012. Even though he wasn't able to see very well, it was one of the proudest moments of his life.
He was a charter member and a founder of Amvets Post 5 in 1999, and one of the original members of the St. Paul chapter of LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens). He was elected the Grand Marshall of the 2010 Cinco de Mayo parade on the West side. He worked at Armour and Co. in So. St. Paul and retired at the age of 55 after 38 years of service. He was also a Union Steward while working at Armour's. He was unable to resist going to work every day, so he went back to work after two years off and did so into his late 60's. He was an avid bowler, and horseshoe player winning many tournaments and trophies. In his younger days he enjoyed fishing, and deer hunting.
"Manny" spent his final two years at Cerenity assisted living on Humboldt Avenue. He made many friends there. We thank the staff and residents for the care he was shown. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. There will be a celebration of his life on Thursday, November 7 from 5-8 PM at Simple Traditions by Bradshaw, 488 Humboldt Ave, St. Paul, MN 55107. Funeral and service Friday, November 8, 10:30 AM at Bradshaw, burial at Ft. Snelling.
