Mary E. Metcalf
Metcalf, Mary E. Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Age 101, of Afton (nee Okie), Died February 24, 2007. Preceded in death by husband, Reverend George R. Metcalf; son, George R. Metcalf Junior; brothers, Richardson "Dick" Okie and Francis "Fran" Okie; sisters, Ann "Nancy" Shoemaker and Rebecca "Bee" Wreidt. Survived by daughter, Margaret "Meg" Poulton, Colorado Springs, CO.; son, Francis "Frank" Metcalf (Mary Doherty), Vancouver, B.C.; grandsons, Stephen (Emily) Rosenmeier and Francis "Fran" Metcalf, Oakland, CA., and granddaughter, Kirstine "Tinne" Rosenmeier (Jon Bassewitz), St. Paul; also three great-grandchildren. Mary Metcalf graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1928 in Pennsylvania with a concentration in English History and Literature. A scholar at heart, she studied Latin, Greek, and Hebrew as well as French and German. She loved the natural world, gardening, reading, travel, art, theater, and opera. A lifelong Episcopalian, Mary Metcalf was a full partner in the ministry of her husband, a priest of the Episcopal Church. Solemn High Requiem Mass, Saturday, March 3, 2007, 11AM, ST. PAUL'S ON THE HILL EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 1524 Summit Avenue, St. Paul. There will be no visitation. Family will receive friends in the Parish Great Hall following the service. Interment will be at St. John in the Wilderness Cemetery, White Bear Lake. Memorials are preferred to MADD- Mothers Against Drunk Drivers or the Episcopal Church Home, St. Paul.
