Alan Dean Schakel

77, of Oak Park Heights, MN, passed away on June 2, 2024.  He was born in Oelwein, IA on January 4, 1947, grew up in Des Moines, IA, and lived several years on St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, and in Mt. Ida, AR.  Alan was an outstanding mechanic who loved drag racing and storytelling.   

He is survived by his daughters, Julie Finch of Des Moines, IA and Jennifer Dean of Indianapolis, IN; his brother, Leonard (Corky) Schakel and sister-in-law Sally of Lakeland MN; his sister, Marilyn Cloutier of Stillwater, MN; grandchildren, Rowyn Finch, Alex Finch, Annika Dean, and Quentin Dean; and nieces, nephews, a grandniece, and grandnephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnekus and Delores (Flaugh) Schakel of Mt. Ida, AR and Oak Park Heights, MN.

A private memorial with extended family will be held to share stories and remember Alan.
