In Loving Memory of Joy Cortinas
Joy Cortinas passed away peacefully Monday morning at 6:15 a.m., surrounded by the love of a family that meant so much to her throughout her life.
Joy is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Steve; her children, Erik (Cheryl), Ramey (Clara), and Ed (Tracy); and her sister, Tiny. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Cameron (Caroline), Collin, Jamie (Zoey), Corbin, Anna, Sam (CeCe), and Louis, and a cherished great-grandmother to Tatum and Ronin.
A true Southern Belle, Joy was born in Quanah, Texas, and carried a little bit of Texas with her wherever she went. After making her home in Minnesota, she affectionately became known as the family's "Yellow Rose of Texas" living in the North. Her Southern roots remained an important part of who she was throughout her life.
Joy dedicated 35 years to H&R Block as a tax specialist, where her knowledge, dedication, and ability to work with people served her well throughout a long and successful career.
Her commitment to her community extended well beyond her professional life. Joy spent more than 10 years volunteering with the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, an organization and tradition that held a special place in her heart. She proudly served as Lady Notos in 2003 and Lady Boreas in 2012. She was also involved with the Pool & Yacht Club, where she served as a board member.
Away from work and community activities, Joy enjoyed the simple things that brought her the greatest happiness. She was a kind, honest soul who loved reading a good book, but above all else, she treasured spending time with her family. Her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were an important part of her life and the memories she leaves behind.
Joy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the many people whose lives she touched over the years. Her family will remember her as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and proud Southern Belle whose Texas spirit found a home in Minnesota.
