Audrey Ernestine McRoy

November 6, 1948 — March 18, 2026

Audrey Ernestine McRoy, age 77, of Vadnais Heights, Minnesota, passed away on March 18, 2026. Born on November 6, 1948, in Jacksonville, Florida, Audrey lived a life defined by her deep commitment to education, her love for children, and her quiet but powerful presence in the lives of those who knew her.

Audrey earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Oakwood College in 1970 and went on to receive her Master of Education from Alabama A&M University in 1974. She began her career as a teacher in Huntsville, Alabama, where she taught at Stone Middle School and later at McDonnell Elementary School. In 1986, she moved to Minneapolis, where she continued her passion for teaching at Holland Continuous Progress School and Sheridan Contemporary School. She later served as a District Mentor for the Career-In-Teaching Program with Minneapolis Public Schools and concluded her distinguished career as a Business Agent for the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers Local 59, where she worked until her retirement in 2006.

Known for her thoughtful listening, quiet wisdom, and steady professionalism, Audrey had a way of saying just what needed to be said—often in fewer words, but with lasting impact. She approached her work with integrity, compassion, and a deep sense of purpose, believing it was a way to improve education and support even more children. Respected by colleagues and admired for her authenticity, she led not with volume, but with insight, patience, and heart. Her influence shaped not only those she worked alongside, but generations of students and educators who benefited from her example.

Audrey brought a distinct and unforgettable presence to the lives of those who knew her—quirky, independent, and deeply thoughtful. As a sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she expressed her love through quiet support, careful attention, and genuine care for others. She was gentle and kind by nature, but carried a quiet strength, never hesitating to be direct and firm when the moment called for it.

She is survived by her sons, Shaun McRoy and Julian O. McRoy; her daughter-in-law, Ann McRoy; and her beloved grandchildren, Julian R. McRoy, Isabel Truong, Jordan McRoy, and Maya McRoy. She was preceded in death by her husband, David McRoy, who passed away in 2017.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 27th, 2026 at Bradshaw, 4600 Greenhaven Drive, White Bear, MN. A visitation will begin one hour prior. A repass to follow service.

Audrey’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she shaped, the children she inspired, and the family she loved so deeply. She will be remembered with great affection and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
