Barbara Sue "Penny" (Diem) Boulay, age 83, Maplewood MN. Passed away on June 20, 2026.
Preceded in death by parents, Mary (Moser) Diem and Lloyd Diem; husband, Alfred Boulay. Survived by brothers, Mike, David; and sister Janet Dauphin; children, Peter (Nancy) Boulay and Patrice Ramaley; grandchildren, Carter and Addyson Ramaley, Ben and Charles Boulay; great grandsons, Weston and Owen Ramaley.
Barbara was born in St. Charles, IL on July 2, 1942. She became known as Penny Diem, because her grandmother preferred the name "Penelope." She started ballet when she was eight, but switched to tap because she didn't like to stand on her toes. Penny graduated from Mount St. Mary's High School in 1960. She met her future husband, Fred, when he was a young barber renting the carriage house behind her parents' home. They were married in 1966 and eventually found a home on Matilda Street in St. Paul. After Peter and Patrice were born, Penny was hired for punch card data entry at First Computer, making lifelong friends. In 1976, the family moved to Maplewood. At the age of 38, Penny went to college at Lakewood and then to St. Kate's and received a degree in Occupational Therapy in 1982. After graduation, she worked at the Ramsey Hospital Psych Ward, then at the Maplewood Care Center as Director of Activities. After that she enjoyed working for the VOA RSVP program. In 1993, she returned to her passion of dancing as a Larkin Lady, retiring in 2004. Penny founded the DG Book Club, with her close dance friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 25th, 2026 at 12:00 PM, at Bradshaw, 4600 Greenhaven Drive, White Bear Lake, MN. Visitation one hour prior.
