Miller, Bette Hokanson
Through tragedy and triumph, with spirit and style, from continent to continent in city or country, hunting boots or heels Bette Hokanson Miller was the leader of our family. We will miss her greatly but remember her often - she made quite sure of that. Born July 16, 1930 Winthrop, MN passed away March 4, 2016 Stillwater, MN. Valedictorian, Winthrop High School 1948, and graduate of MN School of Business and University of Wisconsin, River Falls. Traveler, executive. Preceded in death by husband, Robert H. Miller (1960); parents, Irene and Horace Hokanson, and sister, Mary Sjostrom. Survived by children, Hokan (Penny Sheaffer), Roberta, Win (Nancy Walquist), and Jacquelyn; grandchildren, Britta, Sarah, Ann, and Robert and great-grandchildren Afton, Ben, Mary, Joy, and Olivia. Bette spent most of her time in Bayport and Stillwater and 15 years in Princeton, MN where she was the branch manager of Spire Credit Union before her retirement in 1995. After retirement she spent several years at the Horseshoe Ranch, AZ, working on accounting and guest relations - she once sold 5 horses, sight unseen, over the telephone. Bette was masterful at collecting and cataloging the things she loved -- Chinese brass made before WWII, US postage stamps, Navajo and Zuni jewelry, books, sea shells and she also enjoyed making Christmas ornaments and giving sets to her children each year. Bette so enjoyed her summers at her Rabbit Lake home, which she designed, where she watched the birds, ducks, loons, geese and otters. She will be missed.
