Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister & Friend of Maplewood, MN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Betty was born on September 12, 1931, in Grantsburg, WI to Arvid and Frances Johnson.

Betty graduated from Union Free High School Frederic, WI in 1949. After graduation she moved to St. Paul, MN for work. There Betty met the love of her life Robert (Rick) Richter on a blind date in 1949 and married October 7, 1950. They were blessed to be married for 70 years. Together they raised a family, loved camping, always put family first, and dearly loved their grandchildren. Betty retired from St. John's Hospital after 20 years of service in 1995. She cherished her family and dear life long friends. Betty was a strong determined woman who stood up for what she believed in and ensured those she loved knew they were loved. She could be counted for support, a helping hand, encouragement, and a good listener. Betty always said goodbye with a kiss, hug, and "I love you". She taught us to love and treat animals as family. Betty was a devoted wife caring for Rick the last 15 years of life suffering from Alzheimer's. She provided gentle, unselfish, constant care, and unwavering love without which he would have been lost long ago. Betty's grandchildren were her pride and joy. She always had time to help with their care, pick up from school, enjoy a sport or school event, and in later years cherished their visits and conversation.
Thank you to all dear family and friends who supported us during these many years caring for our parents. A big thank you to Johanna Shores Presbyterian Home and their many dedicated, compassionate, and supportive employees caring for our parents the past eight years. We appreciated the geriatric medical support from Genevieve of Minnesota. The last six months, Betty was pampered by the special care and services provided by Optage Hospice. We will have a joint Celebration of Life & Memorial for Betty and Rick Richter.
