Passed away peacefully at age 76 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Bev was a resident of South Minneapolis her entire life. She graduated from St. Anthony of Padua in 1954, and attended the University of Minnesota's Nursing School; she then worked for many years at the Variety Club Heart Hospital. Bev married Tom Bruening in 1960 and started her family while continuing to work as a nurse midwife. Bev returned to school at St. Catherine's College to pursue her degree as a registered nurse, graduating in1975. She worked for The Minneapolis Health Department as a nurse practitioner from1975 until1992. During her time at the health department Bev pioneered teen clinics in the Minneapolis school system, for the benefit of the youth of Minneapolis. Bev retired in 1992 to enjoy more time with her husband of 52 years, her two daughters, her grandchildren, and her dog. There was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time at the cabin with her family, friends, and grandchildren. Bev loved fishing, playing poker with her friends at the cabin in the summer, and leaving cold Minnesota to spend time in Mexico each winter. Bev is survived by her husband Thomas (Tom); her daughters Catherine and Mary; her grandchildren Tracina, Andy, Katie, and Amber; as well as her sisters Patricia and Barbara; and many loving nieces and nephews. Bev spent her last years at Catholic Elder Care in northeast Minneapolis, fighting Alzheimer's, never losing her sweet smile and gentle way. A celebration of Bev's life will be held April 24, 2013 at 2:00 PM at CATHOLIC ELDER CARE, 817 Main Street, North East Minneapolis . Memorials are preferred to Catholic Eldercare or to the Alzheimer's Association. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Elder Care, especially to those on the third floor.
