Blaine Dallas Haywood, 74, of Woodbury, Minnesota, passed away on December 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family following complications from pulmonary fibrosis.
Blaine was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by his wife of 51 years, Sheryl; his children, Russ (Kari), Dan (Laura), and Natalia (Steve); his seven grandchildren; and two grand-puppy's. His one brother, Alan, passed away in 2011 and Blaine became known as “Gruncle” to his great nephews. He, of course, will be greatly missed by his entire extended family, friends and former co-workers. He also leaves behind one unattended trip to Mexico, one unassembled piece of furniture, an almost meticulously organized workshop and one box of nuts and bolts yet to be sorted.
Born in Britton, South Dakota, on June 3, 1951 to Lyle and Marcene Haywood, Blaine grew up in Maplewood, MN and graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1969. Blaine earned his bachelor’s degrees in architecture and environmental design from the University of Minnesota, class of 1978. After graduation, he enjoyed a variety of work experiences and employment at Wold Association, Trossen-Wright Architects, David Todd Runyan & Associates, RSP Architects and BKVP Group. He dedicated the last 20 years of his professional career to Andersen Windows—famously misspelling “Anderson” on his application and still landed the job. Beyond his career, Blaine took great pride in raising a beautiful family, custom-building his home, and serving as a Boy Scout assistant troop leader, guiding many memorable adventures. He generously gave his time to affordable housing initiatives and supported his community through countless gifts and donations.
In retirement, Blaine embraced life fully. He was an active and devoted grandfather, who cherished time at the cabin—his “happy place” where he enjoyed many a happy hour with cherished Loon Lake neighbors—traveled the world with his wife, children, and friends, enjoyed fishing (once he got his line in the water) and, as he liked to say, simply “did what he wanted to do.”
A celebration of Blaine’s life will be held on Friday, January 31, at the Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard, Stillwater, Minnesota. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., two hours prior to the service, followed by lunch at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org) or LifeSource (www.life-source.org). The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Lakeview Hospital MICU and Respiratory staff for their exceptional care and compassion.
