Brian Hoelzel

Brian Hoelzel passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends, on June 4, 2025, just shy of his 51st birthday. Brian was a beloved father, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his sons, Turner (17) and Mason (15) Hoelzel; former spouse, Caragh Dwyer (married 2006-2022); his parents, Roy and Janet Hoelzel; his siblings, Patricia Frieling (Kevin Frieling) and Timothy Hoelzel (Jessica Hoelzel); and his nieces and nephew, Ava, Adelaide, and Aubrie Hoelzel (Tim and Jessica), and Lucia and Keane Frieling (Patti and Kevin). He will be remembered for his many talents and his devotion to his sons.

A skilled woodworker and craftsman, he started building things for friends and family in high school, and owned his cabinetry business, Brian’s Cabinets, for 20 years. In his Forest Lake shop, he built everything from kitchen cabinets to vanities to shelving built-ins, and more.

At age 14, Brian got his first guitar. With only a couple lessons, he learned to play quickly, and found a life-long passion. Throughout the years, he performed in bands with friends at venues, in basements and garages, played around the campfire, and more recently for several consecutive years at his sons’ school fundraiser gala, for LILA (Lakes International Language Academy).

As a father, Brian was imaginative and fun. Whether it was boating or fishing on Forest Lake, doing creative activities and experiments in the backyard, building something in the shop, playing music or camping, there was always an adventure.

Brian had a kind heart and helpful nature. He was smart, self-motivated, and self-taught in many things. He was a good friend, had a unique sense of humor, and will be remembered for all the ways he brought light to our lives.

A Celebration of Life service for Brian will be held June 28th at 12:00 pm at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard, Stillwater, MN followed by lunch. A visitation will begin at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to a fund for Brian’s sons.
