On February 14th, Chuck celebrated the 45th anniversary of his 39th birthday. Ten days later, he passed away peacefully at his home in Stillwater, MN, while taking his beloved dog, Oliver, for his morning walk.
Chuck was born Charles Elmer Rundquist on February 14, 1942, in Ironwood, Michigan, to Alice (Anderson) Rundquist and Elmer Rundquist. He was a hardworking and passionate family man who loved his days at the lake — singing, laughing, and being surrounded by those he loved most, of whom there were many. He sang for years with the St. Croix Valley Chordsmen and church choirs, sharing his love of music and fellowship. He was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church of Stillwater and quietly supported organizations that cared for those less fortunate.
Chuck graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin–River Falls in 1967, carrying that same dedication and steady work ethic into every chapter of his life. He also loved to garden and was always experimenting with new methods, most recently with his many 20-gallon buckets — too numerous to count. And anyone who ever ate his bread knows he was a master — a true “bork bork bork” baker — filling his home with the warm aroma of fresh loaves and the simple joy of sharing them with others.
Chuck was a steady presence in his family’s lives. He was a quiet man with the best dad jokes and humorous anecdotes. He could fix anything, and he shared this knowledge with anyone wanting to learn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Elmer Rundquist, and his brother, Curtis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Ritter), who had been married for 60 years and dated for 4 years before that. They truly grew together over the years as true partners. He is also survived by his sons, David Rundquist and his children, Asa and Jack; Daniel Rundquist and his wife, Melissa; Michael Rundquist; and his daughter, Jennifer (Rundquist) O’Hara and her husband, Stephen O’Hara, and their children, Zachery, Joshua, and Meghan; as well as his sister, Jacqueline (Rundquist) Carlson and her husband, Donald Carlson; and his brother, Jon Rundquist and his wife, Roberta Rundquist.
Chucks’ memory will live on through all those he inspired and loved.
A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held at a later date, to be determined.
