Daniel J. Meath, 67, of Minnesota, affectionately known by many as "Drainer," passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born into a military family in St. Paul, Minnesota, Dan moved often throughout his childhood, but Minnesota was always home. He built his life there, raising his children and spending decades managing an appliance parts store in St. Paul, where his steady knowledge and unfazed demeanor served him well. Quiet and observant, he had a way of making an impression without many words.
Dan served his country with pride, first as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and later through many years in the National Guard. He didn't often speak about his service, but it was a meaningful and defining part of his life.
Dan loved the outdoors-especially camping and traveling-and he rarely turned down a chance to play a game. He was a skilled cribbage player, enjoyed fishing, and even helped invent family favorites like Tequila Yahtzee. He loved watching football and spent many years playing Fantasy Football. In his younger years, he loved rollerskating and often reminded his family of his talent on the rink. He also loved to be behind a camera, capturing the people and places he held dear.
Animals held a special place in Dan's heart, and they seemed to sense his gentle spirit-always seeking him out for attention. Over the years, he cared for many beloved pets, including Lola, Lily, and Lacey, each of whom shared a special bond with him.
But above all, Dan was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. To his loved ones, he became affectionately known as Papi or Poppi, depending on who was writing it - a name that carried with it warmth and love. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and time with Hazel, Kaleb, Declan, and Harrison was always treasured.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Janet; his children, Krystle (David) Dahl and Sean (Angela) Meath; his bonus children, Nicole (Adam) Wade, Eric (Candi) Dahl, Nicole (Amanda) MacNeven, and Zach MacNeven; his mother, Marlene Meath; siblings, Charlene Roeser, Joseph (Melody) Meath, and Eilene Meath; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. He was welcomed into eternal life by his father, Lawrence Meath; his brother, Lawrence Meath Jr.; his sister-in-law, Georgia Meath; and his brother-in-law, Matt Roeser.
