David James Graham

Age 97, of Bayport, passed away peacefully February 28, 2025. He was a loving husband, father and stepfather, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Born on September 2, 1927, in Roberts, Wisconsin, David's journey began on a farm where the values of hard work and community were instilled in him from an early age.

David proudly served his country in the United States Navy, aboard the USS Hancock, where he laid the foundation for a life dedicated to service and leadership. After his honorable discharge, he pursued his education with zeal, earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls, followed by a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota.

For an incredible 37 years, David made an indelible mark on the lives of countless students as an Elementary Teacher and Principal at Marine, Washington, and Bayport Elementary Schools within District 834 in Stillwater. His passion for education and commitment to nurturing young minds were testament to the deep love he had for his community. Following his retirement from education, David continued to share his infectious spirit and work ethic in various roles—working at Sears in the Mall of America, selling insurance, and eventually retiring from Ace Hardware at the age of 82.

Preceded in death by his parents, his siblings and 1 grandchild. David is survived by his wife, LaNay; children, David Jan (Kirsten) Graham, Carver (Karla) Graham, Gayle (Charles) Shure, Andrea (Karl) Ylonen, Todd (Tami) Graham and Troy (Shari) Graham; step-children, Cris Halverson, Eric (Jeaneen) Halverson and Keri Halverson; 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; other family and friends.

Memorial service on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, 12:00 P.M. at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard, Stillwater with visitation 2 hours prior to the service. Private interment Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Bayport Public Library.
