Age 73 of Afton, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana

He will be remembered for his curious mind, his many hobbies, and his lifelong pursuit of knowledge. He was proud of the many degrees, accomplishments, and accolades he earned throughout his life. He had a remarkable memory that allowed him to share endless stories about the people he met and the places his career took him.

After graduating from North Central High School in Indianapolis in 1972, he continued his education at Indiana University Bloomington before earning an advanced degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in 1988. His career began with the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s Chemical Division as a Technical Sales Engineer, followed by four years as a Technical Sales Representative with Hercules Incorporated. He then spent an impressive 33 years at 3M, where he served as an Account Manager and Application Development Engineer before retiring.

His desire to learn extended far beyond his work and education. He followed just about every sport imaginable, from the Indy 500 to college basketball, and could seemingly find something enticing in every game, race, or season. He was heavily involved in the Beta Thera Pi fraternity and spent several years on the Afton Alps Ski Patrol. He had a deep appreciation for rock and roll, BMWs, craft beer, and Old English Sheepdogs.

At the age of 50, he was diagnosed with throat cancer, beginning a long journey with significant health challenges that he faced throughout the remainder of his life.

Preceded in death by his parents, Nancy Stiff-Franklin and Lyndell Stiff; his aunts Claire-Marie Verwer, Pat Collins & Gay Burnside.

He is survived by his children, Adelaide (Christian) Gould, Samuel (Evamie) Stiff, and Claire (Stian) Anderson; former wife and mother of his children, Rosemary; grandchildren, Graham and Roy; siblings, Nancy (Stephen) and Craig (Michelle); grand-puppies, Archie and Arlo; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
