Derek Anthony Theis

Derek Theis, age 61, went to heaven on June 30, leaving behind a legacy of joy and generosity. Derek lived life to the fullest and found immense joy in the world around him. He was an avid traveler who loved exploring new places, but he also cherished the simple pleasures closer to home. He could often be found listening to music in local parks or watching the horse races enjoying a hot dog at Running Aces. Deeply committed to his community, Derek spent much of his time doing charity and volunteer work, always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Derek is survived by Lisa, his devoted wife and the absolute love of his life; his parents, Roseann and Dallas; his brothers, Scott (Merideth) and Jason (Pam); nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and close friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his beloved cat daughter, Zoe.

Instead of a wake we will be planning a Derek Day in August at Running Aces to celebrate his life.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 10, 2026 following a visitation at 9:30 am, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 215 S 8th Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Derek's wife Lisa to support the family during this time of transition.
