Donald Wendell Quass

Donald Wendell Quass passed away on April 25, 2024, in Breezy Point, Minnesota, at the age of 84 due to heart failure. Born on January 16, 1940, in Randelia, Iowa, Donald grew up in Madelia, Minnesota, where he developed his strong values. He is survived by his wife, Karen Ann Spriggs Quass, his brother, Ken (Bobbi) Quass, his sister, Pat (Bob) Norman, five children, 26 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Werner Quass, his mother, Ivyl Phylena Greenley, his sister, Jeanette, and his granddaughter, Linnea.

Donald received a PhD from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1968 with a focus on muscle protein synthesis. He built a successful career in the food industry, working with Swift Foods, Griffith Labs, Dawson Mills, Land O' Lakes, and as director of research for Grande Cheese in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He founded his own consulting company, Imbroglio Cures, in 1998 and retired in 2003.

A dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Donald and his wife Karen joined the church in 1962 and served in various roles, including branch president, temple worker, and sealer. They also served church missions in St. George, Utah, the Church Archives in Salt Lake City, and at home. Donald was known for his commitment to family history, musical talent with the trombone, and role as a foster parent to newborns awaiting adoption. 

He will be remembered for his loving nature, deep discussions, and playful spirit with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2140 Hadley Avenue North, Oakdale, Minnesota. Visitation Tuesday, April 30, 2024, 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard, Stillwater and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment Wednesday, May 1, 2024, 1:30 P.M. Riverside Cemetery, Madelia, MN.
