In Loving Memory of Donna Jeanne Malum

Donna Jeanne Malum, a dedicated educator, healthcare professional, and tireless advocate for women's rights, passed away on January 2, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on May 27, 1947, Donna spent her life committed to the service of others through her work in nutrition, education, and social justice.

A Life of Service and Professional Excellence

Donna's career was marked by deep expertise in nutrition and a passion for public health. A Registered Dietitian for over 50 years, she served in leadership roles at the VA Hospital in St. Cloud, Head Start programs in Ramsey and Wright Counties, and the University of Minnesota Mayo Hospital. Her influence extended into academia as an Adjunct Faculty Instructor at St. Cloud State University and as the Assistant Internship Director for the Minnesota Consortium Internship. In her later years, Donna transitioned to the classroom as a Reserve Teacher for Minneapolis Public Schools, where she spent nearly two decades supporting students across all grade levels.

Global Advocacy and Personal Passions

Donna was a fierce advocate for equality. As a long-standing member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), she served as the Legal Advocacy Chair, raising vital funds to combat discrimination. Her commitment to global progress took her across the world, including the "Peace Train" to the 1995 UN Conference of Women in Beijing.

Outside of her professional life, Donna found great joy in staying active through yoga, swimming, and cycling. She possessed a lifelong love of art and music, having played the piano since her youth. Central to her life was her deep devotion to Christ, which guided her spirit of service and compassion.

Family and Legacy

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Donald Malum; her aunts and uncles, Gwen and Ken Bacheller and Winnifred and Orville Roppe; and her cousins, John Hunt and Rebecca Szozda. She is survived by her children, Michael DeMars and Kristen (Michael) Reid, her cherished grandsons, Gordon and Maxwell, and beloved cousins Ann (Henry) Voth, and Sharon Mulé.
