Douglas R. Johnson

Douglas R. Johnson, age 73, of Stillwater, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Doug was a man of quiet strength, steady dedication, and deep love for the people in his life. He proudly worked for 44 years and 1 day at Washington County Public Works, holding many roles throughout his career and finishing as operations manager. Doug was known for his reliability, calm demeanor, and deep knowledge—traits that made him not just a respected colleague, but a trusted friend to many.

Outside of work, Doug brought the same commitment and passion to everything he loved. He was a gifted bowler who achieved two perfect 300 games, a rare and remarkable accomplishment. He was also an avid outdoorsman, finding peace and joy in hunting and fishing. Doug’s happiest moments were often the simple ones—gathering with friends over a game of cards or cribbage, rounding the bases in a softball game, or enjoying long-standing traditions and laughs with those closest to him.

But above all, Doug was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; his children, Andy, Ben (Rajeana), and Emily (Matt); and his beloved grandchildren, Emily, Olive, Owen, Hazel, Ethen, Axel, Marshall and Gwyneth. He also leaves behind his brother Steve (Paula) and brother-in-law Richard Huss, along with many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Edna; his brothers Gary (Bonnie) and Tom (LoAnn); and his sister Diana.

Doug will be remembered for his kind heart, easy smile, and steadfast presence. He was the kind of man who showed his love through actions—always there, always ready to help, always proud of those around him. His humor, generosity, and loyalty will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A celebration of Doug’s life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 115 4th St N., Stillwater, Minnesota. Visitation will begin at 10:00a.m., followed by the service at 11:00a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to honor Doug by spending a day doing something he loved—whether it’s casting a line, rolling a strike, or enjoying a game of cards with friends.
