Edward Dunn

Edward Richard Dunn, 90, of Shoreview, MN, died Friday, Feb. 29, 2024, with his loved ones by his side.

He was born April 18, 1933, in Delano, MN, to parents Edward Dunn and Bernadette Hamel Dunn.

Ed grew up in Delano and attended St. Peter's School and Delano High School, graduating in 1951.

He attended Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, MN, and was employed as a tool designer until being drafted into the Army in 1954. He spent most of his Army years at Fort Richardson, AK.

After discharge from the Army, Ed worked as a draftsman and tool designer, and he attended the University of Minnesota, earning bachelor's and master's degrees. After graduation, he was an instructor at the North Dakota State College of Science, and later he was a consultant for the Minnesota Department of Education.

In 1971, Ed accepted employment as the director of the new technical college in Red Wing, MN, retiring as president in 1993. His impact on ensuring access to education was what he was most proud of in his career.

Ed stayed busy with biking, fishing on Mille Lacs and Kabetogama lakes, repairing anything he could, poker, and cribbage.

Ed and his wife, Ellen, were lifelong learners, and they kept it up through retirement as they volunteered, traveled the world, and lived in Texas and Illinois, later returning to Minnesota.

Ed became a master gardener and served as volunteer coordinator of the master gardener program with the Goodhue County Extension office.

Edward is survived by Ellen, his wife of 63 years; his three daughters, Laurie Dunn, Diann (Tom) Reischman, and Cheryl (Tim) Krinke; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Katherine Reischman, and Valerie and Edward Krinke; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Karen Willman and Virginia Matter; and infant son, Patrick Edward.

A gathering of friends and family is scheduled for August 3rd from 1-5 at Bradshaw Funeral Home, 4600 Greenhaven Drive.
