Eileen "Scottie" M. Pagel (Todd)
Aged 88 years of St. Paul, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 1, 2024.
Eileen "Scottie" was born May 20, 1936 in Dunfermline, Scotland, to George and Elsie Todd. She moved to the United States in 1962 where she married Richard that same year. Together they raised 7 children. Known for her kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and of course her Scottish accent.
Scottie was loved by so many. A long-time resident of the Como Park neighborhood for decades. During that time, she was considered a mother to many children from the neighborhood. Whether it was hanging out in the basement playing pool, or sitting out in the alley talking and laughing, the Pagel residence was a gathering place for many and Scottie would make you feel right at home. She opened her home to many people in need of a place to stay or a meal. There were several people who she helped to get "back on their feet", helping them find jobs at several of the restaurants she worked at over the years; most notably Mickey's, Stockman's, and Q-Café. We always enjoyed visiting her during her work shift and hearing the banter between her and the regular customers.
Scottie and Richard spent many years of their retirement living in Las Vegas where her brother Robert, his wife Theresa, their daughter Fiona, and Theresa's father Bill, resided. While Richard enjoyed the quiet part of retirement, Scottie would keep herself busy working in a Coffee Shop, where she continued to meet, greet, and serve others well into her 70's. She was a people pleaser. While going on bus tours with the senior community where she lived, she would often sing and tell jokes over the microphone while in transit.
Throughout Scottie's lifetime, she would often reminisce to close family and friends about the incredible places she had seen and things she had done in her past. One could never grow tired of listening as she always spoke with passion and witty humor. Scottie moved back to Minnesota and lived out the rest of her life in a senior apartment community. But she was not alone. She made many friends and enjoyed morning coffee, bingo, and the occasional trip to the casino.
Eileen was preceded in death by husband Richard; parents George and Elsie; brothers Mitchell, Peter and Robert.
She is survived by her children Mark (Sandy) Pagel, Yvonne "Ronnie" Eddy, Denise (Greg) Willhite, Michelle (Mark) Nicol, Colette Pagel, Todd (Candy) Pagel, and Roxanne (Tom) Singleton; 22 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Theresa and Marita; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
A special Thank You has to be mentioned to her daughter Roxanne and her son Ahmad, who spent so much time caring for her during her remaining years.
She will be missed, but not forgotten.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 12th, at 11:00AM at Bradshaw Funeral Home (1078 Rice St.) with visitation an hour prior. Luncheon to follow
